Hey everyone, hope you're dong well. To the left you can see
I added a link to Rum's Tale. It was this really old comic that
I did, it isn't all that good, but I learned a lot, and it holds
a special place in my heart. So there it is. ^_^ Also, new page,

by. =] Also, watched 3:10 to Yuma! Which was good, the ending
was kinda weird, but a cool movie. I loved a lot of things that
happened in it, and I found it to be entertaining.

Thanks everyone, back on track with the main story now. I'm
glad you got the Vineth story guys, I didn't want to have to
explain it. I think maybe the only confusing part was that he
DID get the thing the monks wanted him to get, he just had to
leave his secret weapon behind in the process. They didn't have
him leave it on purpose, no body knew he was using the King's
Eye to win his battles. And for the most part still don't know.
Of course now he just works for Calmbler.

Hey guys, man do I have tons of info this week. Alright, first,
the previews may look a little odd for the next page. That is
because it is a surprise, next Monday there will be a cool update,
and then one every day for 8 days. Finwik and I did a 24 hour
comic about Vineth Ratt. You can see there preview of on the
vote pages. ^_^
Next up, our dog had pups! Yup! She had 13 too! Geeze, I was
expecting like 6. They’re all doing fine with 5 girls
and 8 boys. They’re all whiny as hell, and I’ve
not been getting much rest since we have to cycle them by hand
to make sure they all get enough food. Finwik has been a life
saver.

I guys, I gotta admit, painting battle scenes sounds a lot more
fun that it is. This page took me nothing short of eons to complete.
I’m not entirely happy with it either, but hey, it’s
done right? =P I’ve been a tad sick, wheezing and coughing
a bit regardless of the fact I spend no less than 4 hours in
a gym per week. Dunno what is up with this year. I refuse to
go take some medicine though and build a dependency. =] I’ll
work through this. Otherwise I’m super peachy! Hope you’re
all doing well! =P

Alright everyone, I’m back for an update. I’ll go
start from finish up to my current status on this bs.
On Halloween an animal control officer came, wrote
me a ticket, and said my dog attacked three old ladies. My dog
was in my bedroom, and I was taking a shower. So unless my dog
figured out how to use the window, there was no way, but I was
called a liar, and told if they report it again they’d
take my dog. Finwik and I moved to a street primarily inhabited
by the elderly, in hopes of not being bothered and enjoying
a nice quiet street. We were wrong in doing so.
The report said my pitbull attacked them, the
cop asked to see my pitbull, so I brought out my mastiff. I
informed him I don’t own a pitbull, then he changed his
story saying they specifically said mastiff. I’ve never
been so mad in my entire life. But what could I do, so I let
him play the big man just in hopes of getting out with as little
trouble as I could, the next day I planned to ship my dogs to
my mothers until Finwik and I could move. Finwik was crushed,
and just seeing her upset was enough to make me want to break
the fat fuck’s arm, but anyway. But obviously I didn’t.
=]
I went up and down the street the following two
days talking with people, no one besides these old ladies even
knew we had a dog, let alone seen it attack anyone. I also found
out two of the ladies are legally blind, one only having one
eye, she lost her other one somehow, the third is mentally handicapped.
I finally broke down and went to meet the women,
to try to punch some holes in their story. They were a mess,
nothing they said made sense, and ultimately I gave up since
they clearly couldn’t keep their story right. I told them
my dog wore a red collar, in hopes they’d say that next
time they reported me, however my dog has always worn a blue
collar. Anyway, that hasn’t happened.
So I’ve been working on the house, planting
plants, digging up some stumps, etc, getting it ready to sell
since we’re moving the hell out of her now, turns out
the crazy old ladies weren’t lying. I mean, they were
wrong, but I think it might have been an honest mistake. It
turns out someone on our street does own an aggressive dog almost
as big as my mastiff. The same color, part great dance, and
part something else. It was bothering a walker and I went to
help her, and then it chased me through three yards until I
got to my porch and it stopped.
Sooooooo… I called animal control, and told
them, they basically said ‘Yeah, right.” And blew
me off. I went and talked to the old ladies, they apologized,
and said they’d call animal control on the matter. As
far as I know animal control never came out but at least maybe
we won’t get the rap again. And that jackass wannabe cop
hasn’t come back by either, he was supposed to, but hasn’t.
Anyway, so I take my dogs to the vet for their
shots, I’m talking to the vet’s assistant because
she’s in love with mastiffs, and I tell her and the vet
the story. Turns out the person who owns the dog lives two houses
down from me, one of the few houses I didn’t go to, and
is like best friends with the assistant…. So I feel bad
telling her I called animal control on her friend. The dog came
from an abused home, and the lady who owns it has been taking
care of it, I guess when she’s gone, the dog has figured
out how to open the gate. I’m not sure. Anyway, so I did
the animal control people’s job, the assistant said she’d
talk to her friend, I THINK all is well.
Sooo. As of right now, we still have our dogs,
no one is mad at us, I don’t have to pay any ticket, I’m
still not sure about it going on my record though. Animal Control
doesn’t seem to want to talk to me very much anymore.
We’re still working on the house, and we’re going
to move, but at least it isn’t an emergency move anymore.
When I can, I’ll try to work on TRoA some more, it’s
been killing me not being able to work on it. Thanks everyone
so much for the support.
-Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - Hyptosis
Hey everyone, I'm sorry to report the comic is not going to
be updated for a while. I know you all just donated money to
help me out, and I'll be back soon. The people on my street
have ganged up on me, and reported my dog attacked someone.
Which is of course not true since I was with my dog durring
the time of the 'attack', and the 60 hours before the time,
but they're just scarred because of the size of my mastiffs.
Which are both harmless aside from stepping on your feet. Anyway,
Finwik and I have to move or they're going to take our dogs
away, I already have a ticket to pay. There is nothing we can
do, I hope in the next few weeks we'll have a new place and
be back online. Sorry everyone, trust me, I bet I'm more upset
than you.
See you guys then. I'll try to keep you all filled
in.

News this week is I'm holding my first ever donation
drive. I've done TRoA for a year and a half and this is the

ask for cash again, just hard times with medical expenses and
needing new tools.

-- Character Creation --
I wanted to talk about character creation this
week. Now I’m no master, but I do have a few tips you
guys might like to hear. I’m mostly going to try to talk
about the physical creation of the character.
Shape: Alright, think about you character’s
shapes. Try to make those shapes part of the character’s
creation every time you draw him or her. If you look at Brond,
he’s essentially a cube, with a hemisphere for a head.
He takes no time to draw. Capp, his body is a rough wedge, his
head is kind of a cube with a triangle on the bottom. Etc. Think
about these, and if you use different shapes for different characters,
it’ll show in the end. The human eye is lazy, and it reads
the shapes quickly without even realizing. Think, “Would
my reader be able to tell who this is simply by their silhouette.”
Obviously this isn’t necessary for every character. I
know Avatis and Jasper would look alike it was just their silhouettes.
But almost everyone else you’d be able to identify.
Height: I can’t stress this one enough.
If you make all of your characters have different heights, and
you’re consistent with it. It will become part of what
identifies them. There isn’t much more to say other than
to DO this. It helps a lot.
Color: Not as literal as I take it in TroA, color
can be very important in telling where a person is from or what
they are like. Red is passionate, a person who wears reds and
warm colors will often feel powerful or filled with life. There
are tons of articles on this all over the place, and it wouldn’t
do any good for me to repeat them. But just be aware of it.
Color is vital. Hair color can give you instant info on where
someone is from as can his or her skin color. Types of clothing
combined with popular colors can convey if someone is part of
a team, or an organization. Just think of these things as you
create your world. It’ll pay off in the end. Chances are,
no one will notice all this hard work, but it is there and makes
your world tangible.

Also wanted to talk about inspiration.
Inspiration.
Sometimes I have a little trouble getting inspired.
I’m sure we all do. After I’ve spent all day coloring
someone else’s work or drawing storyboards, I’m
tired of looking at the computer screen, I just want to watch
tv, or play some games, or sleep, etc. There’s NO drive
to work on what needs to be worked on, my own stuff. What I
usually do is just go to the park or workout for a little bit,
take a shower, anything to rest my eyes for an hour. Then I
come back and get to work on my own stuff. You just have to
realize, it isn’t ‘Should I do it tonight?’
it is ‘I am going to do this tonight.’ That’s
just how it is, so you better get inspired.
If you know you should be working on something,
then you need to get yourself inspired so what you produce isn’t
half-assed. That’s all there is to it. The first key to
this, at least for me, is to find what inspires me. There are
a few books I keep within arm’s reach of my work area,
Spectrum, Blacksad, Pride of Baghdad, Blad eof the Immortal.
Skydoll, and tons of conceptart books. Art of Halo, Halflife
2, Lord of the Rings, Warcraft, etc. Now, these books are sort
of related to my own work. TroA is my baby because I enjoy making
the world more than making the comic. So I keep that kind of
stuff around me at all times. When I play games, I want to work
on games, when I read books about world creation or look at
amazing comic art done by my favorite artists, I want to work
on comics and create.
So identify what inspires you. Then keep it nearby.
When you say, “I need to be making a page right now.”
Then pick up one of these, read ten pages, then put it down
and use that drive. Realize, you have to start before you can
finish, and there’s nothing in the book you’re reading
that you can’t one day do. Those books (or whatever inspires
you) are your fuel, and your pencil is your rocket ship.
Be careful not to use these as a form of procrastination
though. I’m guilty of picking up a book, planning to read
ten pages to get fired up to work, then reading thirty. Don’t
do this! You need that time to get your work done, read enough
to get going, then put it away. It’ll always be there
and you might need those additional pages for more inspiration
later! =P
And don’t get discouraged, just work and
create!

I get a lot a questions about how I manage to keep working on
TroA. How I don’t get distracted, upset, etc. But I do!
I get discouraged all the time! It happens to the best of us.
But the key to creating a comic, is to keep at it. Don’t
listen to anything negative that anyone has to say. If you’re
making pages, you’re training yourself. You have to be
able to tell the difference between the haters and the people
who are giving advice. If someone’s being an ass, don’t
even finish reading what they have to say. It’ll just
bother you and make the next page more difficult to make.
If they’re trying to help, don’t blow
up at them, and don’t take it to heart. Creating a comic
is like exercise, you’re practicing. My ONLY goal with
TroA was that when I reach the last page, it’s two or
three times better than the first pages. I can see improvements
in my work, and looking back at the early pages inspire me.
I can see how much better I’ve gotten. Don’t worry
if you first pages aren’t up to par with your latest pages.
If they were, then you’re not improving anymore.

I’ve been rereading all of the Andrew Loomis books I’ve
got. Great stuff, wish I had a better grasp on it. I do enjoy
the bit in ‘Successful Drawing’ when he mentions
how people often misconstrue learned understanding with talent,
often assuming the latter. Heh, you artists know what I’m
talking about. I’ve always hated the word ‘talent’,
it makes it sound like it just comes to you, rather than you
working and studying like a dog for every drop of it. I mean,
I see talent, yes, I see 15 year olds who have a better understanding
of light and shadow and shape than I ever will, but not often.
Most great artist worked their fingers to the bone to get where
they are. Anyway, there’s the end of today’s rant.

Anyway, I know a big city isn't much to look at,

Hey everyone. Hope you’re doing well. I’ve got a
new page up, AND, if you can believe it, I got updates up for
vote incentives again. It’s been like two months since
I’ve been able to do this. So vote incentives are back
up. =] I’m going to try very hard to stay ahead of schedule
from here on out, I’ve mostly caught up with work, and
if I stay ahead enough, it shouldn’t be a problem. =P
Thanks for sticking with me, and for sending me encouragement
every so often. =P
Also, this is the last page of chapter three.
Didn’t end like I’d like, but it’s a cliffhanger.
So the next page will indeed be the first page of chapter four!

My studio just got a really awesome movie type deal, which I
can't talk about, and I have to work on it over the weekend.
Just letting everyone know ahead of schedule that I won't be

On the health front, it seems I might have found
a really good doctor, who's willing to look at my heart, so
I'm super happy about that.

God, I hate hate hate to do this. But I’ve got to announce
a short pause on Aegis. Just when we were starting to get some
readers. But my health is too bad to keep it up, I’ve
got so many medical bills I’m going to have to get a second
job, which pretty much ends any chance of me having time for
Aegis. I’ll try to keep updating, but I can’t promise
any updates anymore.
Besides the time we had an ice storm, and was
without power for an entire month, I’ve never missed a
single update. Even managed to have bonus updates every couple
of months. Sorry everyone. This sucks so bad. And I love you
all for supporting this. I will try my hardest to update at
least once a week; I just can’t guarantee what day anymore.
Please don’t give up on me, I hope you guys
understand. Don’t remove us from your list of comics to
check in on, I promise to still update, I just don’t know
what days I’ll be able to anymore. I don’t want
to loose the readership that was so hard to earn. There just
isn’t enough time in the day anymore.

Hey guys, few things for news today.
First, sorry I don't have the next page done,
so you can't get a preview of the next page by voting. I'm sorry.

Also, I've obtained a new job as a colorist for
an upcoming comic, so my time will be cut even shorter per week
by... well... a freakin' lot. I don't think this will effect
my updates, since I only officially update every monday, but
I seriously doubt you'll be seeing any multiple updates like
I've done over the past few weeks.
Otherwise, hope you guys are still enjoying the

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well. I got a new page up,
and also uploaded four new pages to the Ifrit history section.
there isn't a lot of rhyme nor reason to it, but we're just
kind of doing it as we go. This way I can ref back to it as
I write the story.

Also, this page is the last pencil page I’ve
done. The future pages will be inked again. I see a lot of great
work done solely in pencil and color, but I’ve yet to
master it. Thanks for being patient. =P I’m sure I’ll
do it again in the future, not inking the pages sure saved a
lot of time though.
And thanks for the voting guys, we’ve been
getting more and more hits and more and more votes. I really
appreciate the support guys. I honestly don’t care if
the comic becomes popular or not, I just want it to be enjoyed
by someone. =]

I hate this whole ‘style’ thing. I hate these classifications
we feel the urge to tape to every damned piece of art we see.
I understand it is human nature, but that doesn’t mean
I have to like it.
This is anime, this is manga, this is American,
etc etc. I use these terms here because I hear them a lot when
I’m receiving crits. And I use ‘crits’ loosely.
I mean, I love real crits. They’re helpful, they help
you see things you missed. They let you know where you’re
weak. But I don’t understand how “This is too anime”
or “This is too American” has any place in a crit.
Unless you know, you’re apply for a job or something,
then it might be an issue with a publisher or something.
I don’t try to make my work look like anime,
if it does, it just does, With the exceptions of a small handful
of Miyazaki movies I don’t even watch anime, I mostly
watch Disney and Don Bluff if anything. I’ve never read
a manga. Blade of the Immortal does not count, because it is
in a genre of it’s own. =P I don’t hate anime, I
don’t hate manga, don’t mistake this as some kind
of attack. I also don’t like most american garbage either.
‘Heroes’ bouncing around in spandex can go only
so far. I just don’t know why it matters if my art resembles
this stuff or not. And then the manga/anime fans often say my
work is too american. Well, I’m american! What the heck?
I do have to admit, that when I list my comic
on a place like drunkduck or something. I often list it under
manga, but I also try to list it under american or whatever
the us equivalent is on the site. I do this because I’m
american, and most of the readers of my comics also enjoy manga.
But make no mistake, I’m not trying to be either. =P I
just want to draw and have fun. And become a great artist and
storyteller someday.
When I see art I don’t like, be it too american
or to anime or whatever, I just stop looking. I don’t
go through the motions to say it out loud as an insult. I’m
not as wound up as this might sound, I just don’t know
where these people come from. =P
Anyway, I’d love to know what you guys think
about this. Let me know.

Well, as some of you might have noticed, I've not been around
for a few days. Like 25 days. Sorry. I've never missed an update
on the comic before, but we had an ice storm and didn't have
power or the net or anything for almost a month. I just got
it back today. You can read about it here

too.
I'll be uploading 5 pages to compensate for the absence. Hope
I didn't lose any readers over this crap. It was expensive,
and a complete pain since our heating is electric it was freaking
cold. =]

Updated the geography page with a
road map of the main lands. You can see the distance between
Wesous (where Elana lives) and Brager (where Rook, Jasper, and
Capp are fleeing from) isn't that much. The ruins lay somewhere
in the middle. I'll upload a more detailed map with all those
goodies later. ^_^

Hey guys. Hope you’re all doing well. I really appreciate
all the support and feedback you’ve been giving me over
the last week. It means a lot to me and I take it all to heart.
^_^ I made a few updates this time, the new votes incentives
will now change every time I update the comic. Since I wasn’t
staying on schedule, from now on the vote incentives are sneak
peaks of the next page. You’ve been voting a lot for me
and I feel like I should do something more for you guys than
I was.
I also updated the character section with info
on three of the newer characters. Hope you enjoy that stuff.
=P Lemme see… what else…. Dangit, there was something
else but it has slipped my mind now. I will update on Monday

Lots of stuff going on, I hope you’re all doing well.
I’ve finally got this section finished! I’m so happy.
I also went back and fixed a few things, on page
nine Avatis was cross-eyed! I can’t believe I missed
it, and for so long. I’ve remedied that issue now. Heh..
it was pretty funny though. Once I noticed it. >_>
I also get to work on Sadat more, I really like
his character and love any chance to further explore him. Originally
he wasn’t even a main character you know. I rewrote much
of the story to work him in because I though he looked cool.
^_^
I was going to try to work on the Orcs
comic a bit, but choose to do extra pages for TRoA instead.
So I really hope you guys like this update, there is like 20
hours worth the work in it. =D There is a bit of gore and violence
though, just a warning.
I've also been working on the links
page. I think I might end up removing the banner and just
using text links, even though it doesn't look the coolest, it
makes my job of keeping them organzied a lot easier. But for
now I moved stuff around and tried to make it aesier to navigate
in.
In other news, I had to make some changes on the
forum, I know this will cut down on the number of people who
register and post sadly, but it is a sure fire way to keep the
spambots from flooding all of the threads. You have to post
in the introduce yourself thread first, to show you’re
not a bot, then I’ll personally add you to the usergroup
that can post in the other channels. I’ve added tons of
little spambot fixes but none seem to be sure fire, and so far
this has worked very well.
I know the tag board is wonky, for some reason,
it doesn't show when you post. If you refresh the page it does.
It just isn't refreshing the board, but the posts are making
it through. I've not had a chance to open it up yet and look
at it. But the double posts really aren't a problem. ^_^
We've been slowly moving up the ladder on the
Buzz and TWC pages, thanks a million guys. I really do appreaciate
it. ^_^ I'll try to update more often, or at least make larger
updates as pay back to you all. =]

I also had some teeth worked on and got an infection
in my gums, so I've been a complete mess this past week. Still
got a page up though, so it all isn't bad. =]
Since last week's incentive was so weak I did
this wall paper for you guys. This will have to work for a while,
might be a bit before I have any extra time at all. ^_^ There
are two version, I tried to make one look kind of vintage or
something, dunno if that worked at all however. <_< Anyway,
here is a tiny little preview. =P

issues before completion of the first story. Nothing is set
in stone, that is just the plan.
I was also thinking of holding some polls so
you guys could let me know what you'd like to see in the comic.
Post on the tag board below (or our forums) and let me know
if you think that's be a cool idea or not. The polls would be
to see what kind of monster attacks our heros, or to see who
gets offed in the next big battle, or maybe just to see who
your favorite characters are. Just fun stuff like that. It was
just an idea. =D
In other news, I wanted to post a couple of comics
that I'm sure you've all seen. but hey, these are the comics
I'm interested in and check out every so often.
There are a ton more, I'll post them later however.
Hey, and guy, those of you that have been clicking
the advertisments for me, thank you. It really helps me with

I got some pretty mixed and shocked responses from page 19.
Some people liked it, some thought it was too much. I think
a lot of people expected a long drawn out conversation or argument,
which I hoped to avoid since it is pretty cliche. One person
even said, “I knew he was gonna do it, look at the guy’s
face on page 18, you can tell.” In any event, hope you
have a good 4th of July and get to see lots of pretty lights.

Oh, almost forgot, you can see under the story
area I'm working on adding some more world info. There have
been more than just a handful of requests for informaiton on
the laws of the realms as well as more info of the four races
and the world they live in. So expect to see more there over
the next week.

Nothing special to report just yet. Got back from my trip and
stuff. All went well, found out my dog is terrible at swimming.

I'm over my cold today. finally.... I'm going canoeing with
some friends this week, so I won't be back for a few days, but
it shouldn't influence the page updates any.

Whoa.. I've been seriously sick guys. =] And I almost never
get sick, it has been years since I've had a cold... ung.. I
have all the fun symptoms, I won't bore you with the details.
In celebration of this cold, I'm updating with an extra page.
Normal updates will commence as usual every monday. I've yet
to miss an update and would love to keep it that way. =D This
is just... an extra day a few days early.

alarm clock, but to the hissing of my ruptured hotwater heater!

I did some more work on the site today. Cleaned up a little
code and added the 'Old News' section since I don't want to
flood this page with updates only after a few months. Also made
an area for any future banner exchanges that MIGHT take place.

New site launched for the comic. Phew. Took me like 8 hours
of straight work to do this bad boy. But here we are. Most of
it was spent painting the pictures though, I mean really. The
design wasn’t brain surgery. =] I hope to maybe do more
pictures for the other pages later. Better ones I mean. Whelp,
thanks for looking! XD
